As a part of the glorious ongoing ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration on the completion of 75 years of Independence of India, GD Goenka Public School celebrated the 75th Independence Day with patriotic zest and fervour. Also, the School Council for the session 2022-23 were conferred with badges at the Investiture ceremony held on the same day. It was a solemn occasion wherein the young students were all prepared to don the mantle of leadership and discharge the responsibilities entrusted upon them by the school.

The occasion was graced with the presence of the Chief Guest, Brig (Dr) Surajit Basu, MBBS, MS (General Surgery), M.Ch (Plastic Surgery), Deputy Commandant & Senior Instructor Appointment Officer’s Training College AMC Centre & College, Lucknow & Professor of Gen Surgery Command Hospital (CC),Lucknow. Brig (Dr) Surajit Basu has a long illustrious career spanning over 35 years and has been the recipient of several honors and awards which includes Sena medal for distinguished services. The Guest of Honour was Mrs. Sharmishtha Basu, an eminent educationist and Principal, ASHA School.           

The programme commenced with the unfurling of the National Flag by the Chief Guest, Brig (Dr) Surajit Basu, amidst the soaring cadences of the National Anthem reflecting the patriotic spirit of each and every individual present at the ceremony.

After the unfurling of the national flag, Student Council contingent headed by the Head Boy, Karan Agarwal and students from classes VI-VIII marched to the beats of the drum which set the mood right for the event.

A medley of Hindi and English patriotic songs rendered by the School Choir rekindled the patriotic spirit and touched everyone’s heart.

The Principal, Dr. Prerna Mitra welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of honour, Chairman Mr. Sarvesh Goel, Ms. Lalita Goel and other dignitaries present on the occasion.  She addressed the audience and the students and told them about the importance of our independence and to realize the significance of the day and remember the struggle of numerous freedom fighters who have contributed in the independence struggle.

She also asked the students to remember the contribution of doctors, teachers and various other volunteers who have worked relentlessly during the COVID 19 period. She congratulated the students who participated in the march past for their spectacular and in sync marching.

The Principal shared her strong conviction that all the office-bearers would be custodians of the school’s special ethos and prove worthy of carrying this lofty responsibility to fruition.

The Indian bravehearts, their stories of valour, patriotism and sacrifice during the Indian freedom struggle can never be forgotten, they instill a sense of pride in us. Students from classes VI-VIII presented the tales of many such India’s warriors such as  Mangal Pandey, Rani Laxmibai, Shivaji, Bhagat Singh,  Sukhdev, Rajguru, Abul Kalam Azad and Pandit Jawahar lal Nehru in the form of a Dance Drama  which mesmerized the audience and reminded them of stories of their courage and role in the freedom struggle. Students from all houses also delivered inspiring speeches in Hindi linking the narrative of freedom struggle spanning form 1857-1947. The winner of Hindi Speech Competition was Ansh Tiwari, Class IX B from Teresa House. The runners up position was bagged by Vigyata Mishra, class IX B from Radhakrishnan House. Sharvani Tripathi of class X B from Vivekanand House took the third position.

GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow firmly believes that leadership is a quality that is nurtured and its seeds are sown during the early years of childhood in the enriching soil of one’s school. The school entrusted reliance and confidence in the new Student Council, for the session 2022-23 through the Investiture Ceremony.

Chief Guest, Brig Surajit Basu along with his wife decorated the badges on the students who were named the Council Members. Shiksha Mishra was conferred upon the badge of Head Girl, Karan Agarwal was conferred the badge of Head Boy.  Saundarya D Nair and Inesh Chopra   were pinned with the badge of Vice Head Girl and Vice Head Boy respectively. The remaining members of the Students’ Council were also conferred badges and sashes. Captains of the four houses were also presented with the respective house flags and badges.

Looking resplendent in their uniforms, the newly appointed thirty seven members of the Students’ Council took a pledge to serve their School and perform their duties with devotion.

A photo session was held with the Chief Guest, Brig. Surajit Basu, SM Guest of Honour, Mrs Surajit Basu, Chairman, Mr. Sarvesh Goel, Mrs. Lalita Goel, Principal Dr. Prerna Miitra, and the newly elected Council Members.

A memento was presented to the Chief Guest, Brig Surajit Basu, SM by the Chairman and the Principal.

After the Investiture Ceremony, the Chief Guest addressed the audience and congratulated everyone present on the occasion of completion of 75 years of independence. He reminded everyone that it was a historic moment for all of us.  He said that we all are lucky and privileged to be able to live in a country with such diverse culture and tradition. He congratulated the students for their immaculate drill and extended his greetings to the school management, Principal, staff and the students. He also commended the Chairman, Mr Sarvesh Goel for his service to humanity through his vision in the form of an institution like GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow. He addressed the members of the Student Council and told them to become true leaders and advised them to make the best of their time, prioritizing their work and be role models for others to follow. In the end he asked the students to remember the sacrifices of the soldiers and salute them for keeping our country safe.

The ceremony drew to a close with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Head Girl, Shiksha Mishra.
