A remarkable day in the history of India as the country got its freedom on 15 Aug 1947. People of the country celebrate Independence Day every year with great pomp and show.  A flag could also be seen on every home’s roof to mark this special day.

The pre-primary and primary sections of GD Goenka Public school, Lucknow celebrated Independence Day with strong emotions on 10 August 2022. The school campus was decorated with tricolor flags and the celebration filled the students with patriotism and love for the country. They learned about the countless freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation and a melange of patriotic activities was organized, which created an atmosphere of national pride.

Students from Grade Pre Nursery till Grade II wore special badges and displayed their excitement and enlightened their spirits. The celebration started with a special assembly where students of Grade I  enthralled the audience with their dance, to the musical number “Bande mai tha dum… and students of Grade II performed a play on the title “Koi Kaad Nahi” which depicted the bravery of our freedom fighters. The assembly concluded with the National Anthem and a promise to serve the nation.

The tiny tots of Pre-Nursery and Nursery danced to the song “Hum chote-chote Bache hai…” which displayed their love for the country. Not only this, the students of Pre-Nursery and Nursery tried to understand the meaning of the word “INDEPENDENT” and promised to do various activities independently like managing their bags, pencil boxes, keeping their water bottles in the correct place, etc. KG students had a JAM session on “Things I can do independently…” and they surprised their friends and teachers by displaying their confidence in the things they can do independently. Students of Grade I and II made colorful posters on their nation with a message to serve the nation lifelong.

Celebrating ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to mark 75 years of India’s glorious Independence, a special assembly was organised in the Primary Section of GD Goenka Public School Lucknow, on 10 August 2022.

The assembly began with a prayer followed by a dance-drama presentation by the students of class III-V.

The audience witnessed an effective depiction of some important landmark episodes from India’s freedom struggle, like the heroism of Mangal Pandey and Rani Laxmibai, the sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, and the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom movement.

The beautifully choreographed dance drama was a poignant depiction of the glimpses of India’s glorious freedom struggle and filled the student’s heart with patriotism.

The Principal, Dr. Prerna Mitra addressed the students and praised the children for the mesmerizing performance. She applauded the efforts of all the students and teachers. She further enlightened the children about Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and congratulated everyone on completing 75 years of India’s independence. She further added the government’s initiative of #HarGharTiranga and motivated the students to place the Indian flag at the highest position in their houses.

The assembly concluded with the National Anthem.

Later during the day the students enthusiastically decorated their classes with tri-coloured balloons, streamers, posters, and paintings created by them, of freedom fighters and participated in a Quiz, on Google form, based on the states of India. The students of classes IX to XII took out a rally too to motivate people for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’campaign.
