A Divine Celebration of Lord Krishna’s Birth

The festival of Janmashtami was celebrated with great enthusiasm in GD Goenka Public School Lucknow. The celebration aimed to familiarise children with the story of Lord Krishna and help them understand the significance of Janmashtami through engaging performances, creative activities, and traditional celebrations.
The celebration began with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp, marking an auspicious beginning to the programme. The ceremony was graced by the officiating Principal Ms Sonia Mathai and the Head Mistress of the Cambridge Section, Ms Mohsina Mirza, whose presence added to the significance of the occasion.
The Nursery and LKG students presented delightful dance performances portraying the birth and playful spirit of Lord Krishna. A UKG student presented a soulful bhajan, adding a devotional touch to the celebration. A short educational video was also shown to enhance the children’s understanding of Janmashtami and its traditions.
The festive spirit continued with a joyful Matki Phod activity, in which the Toddler students participated with great excitement. The activity introduced them to this traditional celebration in a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate manner.
As part of the celebration, class-wise creative activities were conducted for students. The children created colourful crafts such as paper flutes, peacock mukuts, decorated paper matkis, hand fans, and lotus pond crafts. Students also decorated real earthen matkis using colourful paints and decorative materials.
The celebration concluded with a heartfelt aarti, followed by a joyful dance performance, filling the atmosphere with devotion and happiness. The children thoroughly enjoyed the festivities while learning about Lord Krishna and developing an appreciation for India’s rich cultural heritage. The celebration was a beautiful blend of devotion, culture, creativity, music, and dance, creating cherished memories for all.
