GD GOENKA STUDENTS GO ALL SPORTY ON NATIONAL SPORTS DAY

Major Dhyan Chand Remembered in True Sportsmanship

National Sports Day is celebrated each year on 29 August 2022 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the hockey legend, Major Dhyan Chand. The day is also dedicated to the nation’s sports heroes and champions, honouring their contribution and dedication to bringing laurels to the country.

To celebrate this iconic day, GD Goenka Public School Lucknow, held many sports tournaments and competitions in the school with the aim to raise awareness about the values of sports that is discipline, perseverance, sportsman spirit, and teamwork and also to encourage the public to take up sports and make it an integral part of their lives while emphasizing on the importance of being fit and healthy.

A “Run for Fitness” was held for the students of classes III – V. The finals of the Inter-House Football and Basketball tournaments were also organized on this day for both boys and girls. Many other fitness activities were held for the students of classes VI-XII which included multiple tasks like zig-zag and relay races, push-ups, hurdles hopping, and skipping.

National Sports Day observed maximum participation by the school students with full zeal and enthusiasm. The entire campus witnessed the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork through these games.

The school chairman, Mr. Sarvesh Goel, and the principal, Dr. Prerna Mitra appealed to all the citizens to practice sports activities in their lives in order to stay fit and healthy, thereby emphasizing on the ‘Fit India Movement’ started by our honourable Prime Minister.  The event was wrapped up after the declaration of the winning teams.
