Onam Celebration in Traditional Way at GD Goenka Public School Lucknow
The famous festival of Kerala, Onam, was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm at GD Goenka Public School on September 4, 2024. The children took part in various activities, making this festival a memorable one.
The day began with a special assembly led by the Grade I students, where they performed a beautiful traditional dance depicting the rich traditions of Onam. Their performance captivated the audience and set the tone for the festive day ahead.
Pre-primary children celebrated Onam in their own special ways. Toddlers and Nursery children decorated beautiful rangolis using mango leaves and flowers, reflecting the rich culture of Kerala. Their innocence and simplicity added a unique charm to the rangolis. The LKG children showcased their creativity by making paper rangolis, and decorating them with colourful sticks and stones on the layout. UKG children expressed their artistic skills by colouring and decorating Kathakali face mask layouts, showcasing their imagination. Grade I students made colourful paper snake boats, while Grade II students answered questions in a comprehension worksheet based on the Onam festival. Additionally, they also had a quiz based on the festival.
Traditional Kerala dishes like idli and sambhar were served in the school cafeteria, giving students a taste of the festival’s flavour and traditions.
Thus, the Onam celebration was not only an educational experience for the children but also an event filled with fun and joy. This cultural program left a significant impression on every child.
