STUDENTS OF GD GOENKA SCHOOL CELEBRATE THE FESTIVAL OF ONAM IN FULL TRADITION:-

Onam, the harvest festival of Kerala, was celebrated at GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow on Monday, 28 August 2023. The festival of Onam is dedicated to King Mahabali who sacrificed himself to align with his kingdom to stand true to his words. Teachers explained to the children why we celebrate the Onam festival and the story behind it with the help of a video.

The day was marked by the special assembly by the children of Grade II depicting the whole scenario of the Onam festival on the song – “Malayar Vasant”.

Teachers of Pre-Nursery brought petals of different flowers from home to conduct an activity for their children. The tiny tots of Toddler and Pre- Nursery were engaged in making a colorful Rangoli – ‘Pookalam’. The flower Rangoli was a collaborative activity of teachers and students that symbolized peace, love brotherhood, high ethics, and morals.

Children of class Nursery did paper rangoli on the layout by tearing and pasting activity. Kindergarten children did Mandala Art by showcasing their creativity and adding colors to it. Grade I children did a freehand drawing of a snake boat and Grade II children drew a scene depicting the festival of Onam and spoke 4 to 5 lines on it.

Pre- Primary children relished Idli sambhar in the cafeteria. The children ate on the banana leaves instead of plates, and it was an effective way to make them understand that it is extremely healthy and auspicious.

Children enjoyed the day and learned the moral that ‘Humanity always wins’.
