GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, celebrated Guru Nanak Jayanti with great reverence, joy, and educational purpose, honouring the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism and a universal messenger of peace, equality, and compassion. The school organized a day filled with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that helped children understand and internalize Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings in age-appropriate and engaging ways.
The celebration focused on fostering moral reflection, kindness, and a sense of community service—core values that Guru Nanak Dev emphasized throughout his life. The school environment radiated positivity as students from toddler class to Class II participated in thoughtfully curated activities that highlighted the importance of goodness, truth, and humanity.
Young learners from the toddler and nursery groups participated in a Langar Sharing Activity, where they brought small snacks from home to share with classmates. This activity gave children their first experience of equality, sharing, and togetherness—mirroring the spirit of the traditional Sikh langar where everyone eats as equals.
Students of LKG created “Light of Wisdom” candles, each decorated with colourful designs and carrying meaningful messages inspired by Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings. These artistic expressions helped children understand that wisdom and goodness radiate from within.
The UKG learners enthusiastically took part in a Community Helpers Parade, where they dressed as doctors, teachers, farmers, and other professionals who serve society selflessly. This activity highlighted Guru Nanak Dev’s principle that “Service to humanity is service to God.” It also encouraged children to value the people who help build and sustain the community.

Class I students worked on Goodness Bookmarks, illustrating moral messages such as “Be Honest”, “Share and Care”, and “Help Others”. Through this, they learnt that honesty and kindness are essential parts of daily life. Meanwhile, Class II students participated in a reflective creative writing activity titled “If I Met Guru Nanak Dev…”, where they imagined meaningful interactions with the Guru and wrote about the lessons they would learn from him.
The celebration concluded with a warm and traditional meal of aloo puri and halwa shared among the children—another representation of langar values that promote equality and unity. The air filled with devotion as students chanted “Satnam Waheguru”, reinforcing peace, gratitude, and spiritual togetherness across the campus.
The entire event not only paid homage to Guru Nanak Dev but also ensured that his teachings became part of the students’ character-building journey. Through creativity, shared meals, storytelling, and acts of kindness, the celebration successfully nurtured values of compassion, honesty, humility, and service—the timeless teachings that continue to inspire the world.
