GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, commemorated Army Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour, as students across the pre-primary and primary sections paid heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers of the Indian Army. Celebrated annually on January 15, Army Day marks the historic occasion of Lieutenant General K.M. Cariappa assuming office as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, symbolising India’s military sovereignty and strength.
The celebration at the school aimed to instil values of courage, discipline, resilience, and national pride among young learners while helping them understand the significance of the armed forces in safeguarding the nation’s unity and sovereignty. Teachers introduced students to the historical and contemporary importance of Army Day through engaging discussions, stories of valour, and age-appropriate explanations of military service and sacrifice.
Students participated enthusiastically in a wide range of well-planned creative and experiential activities designed to suit their developmental stages. Toddlers expressed their gratitude by creating camouflage handprints and colourful “Thank You” hangings dedicated to Indian soldiers. Nursery students decorated paper soldier caps using finger-painting techniques, blending creativity with patriotic expression.

LKG students crafted fighter aeroplanes using paper and cotton dabbing, while UKG children made soldier-themed crafts with ice-cream sticks, learning about uniformity, discipline, and teamwork through hands-on activities. Grade I students designed vibrant Army Day posters, reflecting their understanding of patriotism through drawings and slogans. Grade II students completed worksheets featuring soldier colouring activities and military-themed word searches, reinforcing learning through fun and engagement.
To further enrich the celebration, the school organised strength and hurdle-based physical activities, helping students appreciate the importance of fitness, endurance, teamwork, and mental strength—qualities essential for soldiers. These activities not only enhanced physical coordination but also conveyed meaningful lessons about courage and perseverance in an enjoyable manner.
Throughout the celebration, emphasis was laid on gratitude, respect, and admiration for the armed forces. Teachers highlighted the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families, inspiring students to value peace, freedom, and service to the nation.
The Army Day celebration served as an inspiring platform to connect young learners with the enduring spirit of patriotism and service, nurturing responsible citizenship from an early age. The event successfully combined learning with creativity, ensuring that students carried home not only joyful memories but also a deeper respect for the Indian Army and its unwavering commitment to the nation.
