CBSE on Thursday conducted the class 10th mathematics examination across the country. Mathematics paper is a mandatory paper that carries 80 marks. A total of 18,89,878 candidates have registered for the CBSE class 10th exam this year. Out of these,788195 are girl students, 1101664 are boys while 19 are transgenders. There are a total of 23,844 candidates in Class 10th from foreign schools. Here is an analysis of the exam based on the reaction of the students who appeared in the exam and the subject teachers.
Prayagraj
The CBSE Class 10 students in Prayagraj found the Mathematics question paper not so easy if not tough. The board from this year introduced a separate easier version of Basic Mathematics question paper for students not willing to pursue science stream in class 11 while the rest of students preferring to pursue science stream in class 11 were given the standard Mathematics question paper. Both type of question paper were of 80 marks each.
Akansha Yadav of Ganga Gurukulam School found the standard mathematics question paper scoring, specially the C and D section which were largely based on questions in NCERT book. ‘The section A of the paper of 20 questions carrying 1 mark each was easy to attempt while section B with questions on geometry and probability were a bit tough’, she said.
Abhidutt, also of Ganga Gurukulam School found questions on applications of trigonometry besides question on Basic Probability theorem a bit confusing.
Karita, another student said the short answer questions of section A besides statistical graph questions were scoring while some questions on probability, trigonometry and triangles were a bit tough.
According to Devesh Singh, teaching Mathematics at Ganga Gurukulam School, the question paper of both Basic and Standard versions were from syllabus. Singh said that some portions of standard mathematics required students to have proper grasp of the topic like questions on probability, applications of trigonometry, etc. He said since the board introduced separate question paper of Basic and Standard stream from this year, students were not aware of the exact pattern as no previous year question paper of separate pattern were available for practice.
AGARTALA
Roopkatha Dey, student of Sri Krishna Mission School at Agartala who appeared for standard math said, “ The mathematics questions was fine. My paper went well and I hope to score good marks.”
Bipasha Debnath, student of the same school who appeared for basic math said, “This year’s question paper was mostly application- based. The paper was easier compared to the previous year. My paper was good.”
CHANDIGARH
The students from various school who had their exam centre at GMSSS sector 37 said that the paper was easy.
Nitin Chand a student of standard mathematics said that the exam was easy and good. I was able to complete it on time. It was on expected lines.
Another student Ritesh Kumar who had appeared for standard math paper said that it was a good paper.The three marks questions in section C were difficult. Some questions were not directly framed. I found a question from Chapter Triangle and trigonometry out of book. It was little bit lengthy.
Naveen Yadav who appeared for basic math said that it was very easy. I completed the paper half an hour before time.
LUCKNOW
Maitreyi a Class 10 A Students of DPS Jankipuram, Lucknow who appeared in the basic mathematics exam said that the paper was not lengthy. 1 mark questions were not completely oral and required some calculations. Overall, the paper was more conceptual than that of calculative. Sanjeevani, another Class 10 student who appeared for basic mathematics said ‘it was the best paper of my life’.
Ansh Verma of the same school who appeared in Standard math exam said “Paper was very easy and I completed paper in only 2.5 hrs and I am sure that I will score 100% in this exam.”
Kriti Chandra of DPS Jankipuram who also appeared in Standard math exam said mathematics paper was easy and most of the questions were Ncert based. Also the paper’s length was normal. Class 10-B student Sneha of the same school who appeared for standard paper said exam was not very difficult with many NCERT questions and examples. The length of paper was average.
Bhuvi , a student of GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow said, “Question paper was average and few questions were tricky which took some time away.”
Another student Aryan said that the paper was lengthy in each set. “Overall, the paper was balanced but the multiple choice questions were a little problematic,” said another student Pranjal.
Vasvi said, “Most of the questions were from NCERT syllabus and based on the sample paper”.Kushagra said, “It was a standard paper with balanced difficulty level barring some questions which were complicated.’’
