Embracing Democracy: A Student’s Perspective

Democracy empowers people to choose their leaders, ensuring that governance reflects the will of the citizens. Abhaya Singh, a Class VI student at GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, eloquently explained this concept in an article titled Democratic Journey.

India, a proud republic, follows the core democratic principle where the head of state is elected by the people rather than through inheritance. The term republic derives from the Latin phrase res publica, meaning “the public thing,” with roots in the ancient Roman Republic (509 BC to 27 BC). In India’s parliamentary system, the President acts as the ceremonial head, while the Prime Minister leads the government, working with the council of ministers to implement policies.

Every year, India celebrates Republic Day on January 26, commemorating the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1950. This celebration reflects the country’s unwavering commitment to democracy and citizens’ rights.

GD Goenka Public School, recognized as one of the best CBSE schools in Lucknow, fosters such values among students. Through thought-provoking projects and activities, the school empowers students to become informed, responsible citizens.
