GD Goenka Students Learn the Process and Advantage of Composting:-
Composting teaches kids a variety of concepts. It teaches them environmental awareness as teachers teach them how composting helps the earth grow more healthy and why we don’t want our landfills overflowing with food and garden waste. Science is learned through composting as well.
Composting is the delicate procedure of supervised decomposition of organic waste, which gradually transforms waste to nutrient-rich manure. On 25th August, 2023 our little Goenkans of class Toddlers to class II made compost under the guidance of teachers in groups. For this activity for Toddlers and Pre-Nursery,the teachers provided a big container and the children mixed all the brought kitchen dry waste materials like used tea bags, dry leaves, egg shells, fruit/vegetable peel, and waste paper from home, with the soil, watered it and kept it in sunlight for 1 month.
Students of class Nursery to class II also made their compost in their separate containers. For this activity, the children brought a container and available kitchen dry waste material from home. After making the compost they took their bottles at home and were told to keep it in sunlight and record the observation after 15 days. Kids also learn about decomposition and how it works through this activity.
Little children were amazed to practically reuse the kitchen waste. They were told that later on, this compost will be used in the school garden, or their plants at home. The children inculcated belongingness to the environment through this activity. Also, it was a good practice to enhance their fine motor skills. Little goenkans enjoyed this activity thoroughly.
