GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow celebrated National Sports Day with immense enthusiasm to mark the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand. The day was filled with activities that promoted fitness, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, aligning with the school’s vision of nurturing holistic development in students.
The celebration began with a special assembly, where students took a sports pledge, participated in a sports quiz, and listened to a motivational speech on the importance of maintaining fitness from an early age. A short video presentation highlighted the role of fitness in daily life, reinforcing the significance of the day.
Throughout the day, a wide variety of age-appropriate sporting activities were organised for different grades.
Toddlers took part in an ice-cream race and balancing games.
Nursery students enjoyed scooping races, while LKG children had fun with hula hoops and jump ball activities.
UKG students hopped with soft balls held between their knees, focusing on coordination and balance.
Class I students participated in a bag race, while Class II students enjoyed a classic hurdles race.
Older students had their share of challenges with indigenous games like kho-kho and kabaddi, while students from Classes III to V engaged in running and fun races. The campus echoed with cheers, laughter, and the spirit of healthy competition as students displayed their athletic skills.
The day concluded with encouraging words from Principal Dr. Prerna Mitra, who reminded students that sports should not be seen merely as competitions but as a lifelong habit for fitness, discipline, and teamwork.
Chairman Sarvesh Goel also emphasised the importance of balancing academics with physical activity, noting that GD Goenka provides world-class opportunities in both.
