Geological Survey of India:-

GD Goenka Public School students go on an excursion to the geological survey of India, Lucknow. Every student loves to get out of the classroom and explore. School plans and makes an effort for these excursions to be rewarding both to students and teachers as this will help them remember these learning experiences for a long time.

Excursions are part of the curriculum and are meant to expose students to their actual and practical fields of work where they visit different industries and projects. Here they are expected to be very observant and inquisitive.

One such excursion was organized by GD Goenka School Lucknow Cambridge Section for its students from class III to class VII. The students embarked on an educational field trip to the Geological Survey of India (GSI) in Lucknow. The objective of this trip was to provide students with a practical understanding of geological processes, the role of GSI in geological research, and the importance of geology in various applications. The purpose of the excursion was to expose students to real-world geological activities and provide them with a hands-on learning experience.

The trip began with a warm welcome by GSI staff, who provided an overview of the organization’s history, objectives, and ongoing projects. Students visited the Geological Museum, where they witnessed an extensive collection of minerals, rocks, and fossils. The museum tour provided valuable insights into the Earth’s history and evolution.

Students had the opportunity to visit various GSI laboratories and the Petrology division where they observed geologists conducting analyses of rock samples, mineral identification, soil strength measurement to construct structures such as dams and buildings, and geophysical investigations. This exposed the students to the technical aspects of geological research. GSI experts conducted a fieldwork demonstration, explaining the various methods used in geological field surveys, such as mapping, drilling, and sampling. An interactive questions-and-answer session allowed students to clarify doubts and gain further insights into geological concepts.

The field trip to the Geological Survey of India, Lucknow, was an enriching and eye-opening experience for the students. It provided them with practical exposure to geological research, deepened their understanding of Earth’s processes, and highlighted the crucial role of Geology in various applications. The visit to the GSI will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the student’s academic and career pursuits in the field of geology and related disciplines.
