International Tiger’s Day Commemorated at GD Goenka Public School Lucknow:
29 July, 2024, on the occasion of International Tiger’s Day, a special initiative was undertaken in our school to raise awareness and appreciation for tigers, our national animal. The day began with a special assembly for Pre-primary children. Children of UKG-D presented a mesmerizing skit for their friends. The session aimed to educate children from Toddler to Grade II on various aspects of tigers, their habitat, physical characteristics, and their crucial role in the ecosystem.
For Toddler to Grade II, the teacher explained what tigers are, where they live, their physical features such as stripes and size, and their significance in the ecosystem. Emphasis was laid on the fact that tigers are endangered and why it is vital to protect them. Concepts like “Safe Homes for Tigers” and “Keeping Tigers Healthy” were highlighted during the explanation.
In class Nursery, children engaged in a hands-on activity by creating a collage of a tiger using torn pieces of paper. Meanwhile, in LKG, they crafted tiger-themed creations using paper masks, fostering creativity while reinforcing the theme of tiger conservation. The UKG students participated in a worksheet activity focused on saving tigers, encouraging them to reflect on the importance of conservation at their level of understanding. Moving to Grade I, children were tasked with writing and drawing slogans advocating for the conservation of tigers, promoting creativity and awareness simultaneously. Lastly, in Grade II, students participated in a Tiger Role Play activity where they were divided into groups and assigned different roles such as a tiger, forest ranger, poacher, or environmentalist. Through enacting scenarios, they gained insight into various perspectives related to tiger conservation. A worksheet accompanying the activity provided additional reinforcement of the concepts discussed.
Overall, the session provided a comprehensive approach to educating and engaging children across different age groups on the importance of tiger conservation, instilling in them a sense of responsibility towards protecting these majestic animals and their habitats.
