The school’s Janmashtami celebration served as a platform to instill cultural awareness and unity among the young learners.
The event, held on 6.9.2023, transformed the school into a vibrant canvas of colours, decorations, and smiling faces. As the sun rose on this special day, it illuminated the stage where a variety of performances and activities were set to take place.
The heart of the celebration lay in the diverse performances that students presented. The little ones, from toddlers to grade 2, swayed and twirled to the beats of different songs, each dance reflecting a unique theme related to Lord Krishna’s life and tales. Their performances were a testament to their enthusiasm and the efforts put in by both students and teachers. The chairman of the school Mr. Sarvesh Goel and the Principal Dr. Prerna Mitra were present on this occasion as esteemed guests.
Adding an element of playfulness to the event was the iconic “Matki-Phod” ceremony. This engaging activity captured the essence of Lord Krishna’s mischievous nature, our toddlers took turns to break a suspended clay pot (matki) filled with delightful goodies. Laughter echoed through the air as each participant was in the getup of little Radha and Krishna and eagerly tried their little hands at the Matki-Phod activity, creating lasting memories and strengthening the spirit of camaraderie.
In a heart-warming display of creativity, the nursery students contributed to the Janmashtami celebrations by engaging in matki decoration crafts through carefully designed worksheets.
Creativity took centre stage with the “Feather Making Craft” activity, where young minds of KG diligently crafted vibrant peacock feathers. The peacock is a symbol closely associated with Lord Krishna, and the students’ enthusiasm in making these feathers showcased their connection to the festival’s essence. The children were fully engrossed in the process, and the feathers they created became cherished souvenirs of the day.
One could not miss the enchanting sight of the “Matki Decoration” corner, where students of grades 1 and 2 showcased their artistic talents. Clay pots adorned with intricate designs and radiant colours stood as testaments to the children’s creativity. This activity served as a reminder of the importance of decoration in Janmashtami celebrations, adding a traditional touch to the event.
The celebration, beyond its festive nature, held educational value for the students. It deepened their understanding of the cultural significance of Janmashtami, as they actively participated in various activities that brought the stories and traditions to life. The event offered them opportunities for self-expression, creativity, and the development of confidence through performances.
In conclusion, the Janmashtami celebration at GD Goenka was a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on all who participated.
