Students develop culinary skills in the Kitchen Activity held at GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow. Hands-on cooking activities help children develop confidence and skill. Following recipes encourages children to be self-directed and independent, it also teaches them to follow directions and develop problem-solving skills. Fine motor and eye-hand coordination skills are develop by chopping, mixing, squeezing, and spreading.
Cooking improves children’s thinking and problem-solving skills, and creativity. It also allows children the opportunity to use the knowledge they have and apply it by counting, measuring, following a sequence, following directions, and cause and effect.
The students of GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow donned their ‘Chefs Caps’ to exhibit their culinary skills in the ‘Kitchen Activity’ (Cooking without Fire) conducted on 03 May 2023. The theme was ‘Bear Face’. It was a delicious sight to watch the little hands chopping and decorating away.
Students participated in the activity with full zeal and enthusiasm. Through this activity, they learned the spirit of teamwork, and culinary skills and appreciated the hard work that goes into cooking. Our learners prepared healthy dishes and yummy lip-smacking items like Cheela, Pancake, Healthy Sandwiches, and many more using easy and quick recipes. They decorated their delicious recipes as the bear face in order to follow the theme. The event not only provided a platform for the students to foster their creativity and decision-making skills but also helped them explore their hidden talents and discover new areas of interest.
This activity was a great way to create awareness about the nutritional value of food cooked without flame, the necessity, and the advantages of healthy eating and encourage our students to avoid junk food. The dishes prepared were presented in an artistic and aesthetic style by all of them and were indeed a treat for the eyes and tickling for our taste buds!!
