World Affairs Discussed at The 7th Edition of GD Goenka Model United Nations 2023:-
GD Goenka has always empowered and encouraged the concept of Model United Nations 2023 for its students. GDGPS MUN has been one of the most awaited conferences not only in the school but also in the Lucknow MUN Circuit.
The 7th Edition of the two-day Model United Nation 2023 was organized on 07 and 08 October 2023 at GD Goenka Public School Lucknow. This event saw participation from schools like The Millenium School, Seth MR Jaipuria School, La Martiniere Collge, Manipal School, City Montessori School, etc. 650 students from more than 20 different schools gathered as representatives of different countries and discussed various problems of the world and their solution.
The opening ceremony on day one began with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest Shri Jayant Krishnan Director, MEPSC & Group Chief Executive Officer, UK India Business Council, thereafter, students presented a very mesmerising ‘Shiv Tandav’ dance to welcome the Chief Guest, dignitaries and all delegates of MUN. The Chairman, Mr. Sarvesh Goel presented a T-shirt of Lucknow Run to the esteemed Chief Guest and the Principal Dr. Prerna Mitra gifted a planter to welcome him. The Chief Guest addressed the students and urged them to utilize their potential to the fullest and face the challenges of the world with full energy and enthusiasm.
The Chairman, Mr. Sarvesh Goel addressed the delegates and welcomed them with his words of wisdom and encouragement in the opening ceremony. He said that GD Goenka Public School always provides multiple platforms to its students to express their thoughts and vision and MUN is one such platform. He further said that MUN provides students an opportunity to discuss and deliberate various issues related to world problems. Students were shown videos related to various committees
All delegates were presented with a gavel to felicitate them. MUN Secretary General Aanvi Chattopadhyay expressed her views and said that present-day youth are fully capable of giving shape to a new world. Shruti Mishra, MUN Deputy Secretary General welcomed all the delegates and started the programme. Committees that have participated in the MUN 2023 are IOC, UNSC, UNCSW, ECOFIN, ILO, UNDRR, LOK SABHA, NIA, JCC, and IP.
The first day began with a general introduction of the agendas by the Executive Board Members followed up by a brief discussion on the agenda and a short introductory speech by all the present delegates marking their country’s stance. The delegates discussed and debated upon the moderated causes set by them in the sessions throughout the day.
On the second day of the conference, the delegates of all the ten committees of GDGPS MUN 2023 participated enthusiastically and maintained the flow which resumed after the first day. The committees came to unique and creative conclusions adhering to world issues.
The Closing Ceremony of GDGPS MUN 2023 was held on 8 October 2023. The Chief Guest for the Closing Ceremony, Shri Piyush Mordia, IPS, ADG Lucknow Zone, Uttar Pradesh congratulated all the winners and presented certificates to them. He addressed the MUN participants and underlined the fact that difficulties and challenges are inevitable. He also expressed his appreciation for the work of the MUN Secretariat; their hard work and dedication to organize such a successful and smoothly conducted event and thanked the school management for inviting him to the closing ceremony of GDGPS MUN 2022.
The Chairman, Mr. Sarvesh Goel applauded the students for conducting the event in such a smooth manner and coming up with such deep insights for the world issues discussed in the various committees. He stressed the importance of accumulating knowledge and education from all possible sources.
The Director General Swastika Rastogi in her speech expressed gratitude towards all her teammates. She also mentioned participating in MUNs gave him an opportunity to deliberate her views on international politics on a platform where she could allow her voice to be heard by the people of the community.
The culmination of the event was with felicitation of Ex-Secretary Generals and BTS of MUN. Lucknow Run was declared and a video was also shared with the audience.
GDGPSMUN 2023 award distribution was held at the end of the conference.
BEST SCHOOL DELEGATION: The award was won by LaMartiniere Boys’ College.
