Onam Celebration at GD Goenka:
Onam Celebration at GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow on September 11, 2019, with such huge sprit it towards the festival. Onam is the Annual Harvest festival of the Indian State of Kerala. it falls on the 22nd Nakshatra Thiruvonam in the Malayalam calendar. According to legends, the festival is celebrated to commemorate King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala at the time of Onam.
There was a special assembly organized for all the children where they witnessed a beautiful and exemplary dance performance. later on, the kids from class Pre Nursery to Kindergarten were given worksheets to color that symbolized Onam for them. These worksheets taught about the boat race that is an important event in Kerala during Onam and how people of Kerala decorate their houses and surroundings.
Children from Class 1 and 2 were asked to decorate bandhanwars which they made meticulously with paper flowers, stars, mirrors, cut-outs of banana leaves. Each student made sure that the bandhanwars looked mesmerizing. The students were asked to make them in two groups and once it was done, they hung it on their class doors! A lot of effort was seen in order to bring out the grace from the occasion. truly, the Festival marked such happiness that could be seen on these little one’s faces while celebrating Onam.
