GD GOENKA PUBLIC SCHOOL CELEBRATED ‘RAKSHA BANDHAN AND ONAM FESTIVAL’:-
Raksha Bandhan was celebrated with zeal and joy by the students of GD Goenka Public School on 19 th August.
Raksha Bandhan is a festival primarily observed in India, Mauritius and Nepal which celebrates the relationship between brothers, cousins and sisters. The bond of love between a brother and a sister is one the deepest and noblest of human emotions. The central ceremony involves the tying of a ‘rakhi’ by a sister on her brother’s wrist. This symbolizes the sister’s love and prayers for his well being, and the brother’s life long vow to protect her.
This festival strengthens family ties, especially those between sisters and brothers. Raksha means ‘protection’ and Bandhan is a verb meaning ‘to tie’. As a part of the celebration, a superfluity of activities was held not in school premises due to pandemic situations but activities were performed by students at their homes. Teachers demonstrated everything through online classes. The students were explained about the significance of the festival.
The students of Pre- nursery to K.G. celebrated by talking about the importance of the festival. Children made rakhi with the material available at home and made cards for their sister with a small love message on the card. Grade 1 and Grade 2 celebrated by talking about the importance of the festival. A story based on this festival with good morals was used to bring forth the importance of the festival. Students did a cup painting with a small message on it and Thali decoration with the material available at home.
Along with this festive our children also celebrated Onam, it is the official state festival of Kerala. It is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm all over the state by Malayalees regardless of religion, caste or creed. GD Goenka Public School celebrated the festival with great enthusiasm virtually with students on 19 th August. Videos of Pookkalams (an intricate and colourful arrangement of flowers laid on the floor), snake boat races, and other local celebrations of Kerala were used to give children an insight into the festival.
During the online class, a quiz was conducted for the students Pre-nursery to grade II based on the video. Children participated enthusiastically in the contest. The students were excited to answer. Active participation of students made the day meaningful.
