Raksha Bandhan – A Knot of Love, a Forever Bond!

Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of sibling love and Indian traditions. It is a special occasion that commemorates the everlasting bond between brothers and sisters, symbolising love, trust, and responsibility. It highlights the importance of living in harmony and showcases the rich culture and tradition of India that make our nation unique.

On Thursday, 7th August, our school came alive with the colours and joy of Raksha Bandhan. The children participated in various creative activities that not only celebrated the festival but also encouraged them to express their love and creativity. The youngest students of our school, the Toddler and Nursery groups, had a delightful time making Rakhis. Their enthusiasm was contagious and the rakhis they created were both adorable and imaginative. In LKG, students decorated paper plates to make puja thalis. They were eager to show off their creations and their pride in their work was evident in their smiles. UKG students took on the task of making Rakhis by carefully using colourful materials to craft beautiful designs. A Rakhi relay race was also organised for UKG students, adding an athletic element to the celebration and raising the excitement level significantly.

Grade 1 students decorated rakhis and tied them to a plant. The children learned about the importance of trees and the bond between nature and human beings, similar to that of a sibling bond. Lastly, the Grade 2 students put their heart into making Rakhi cards. With messages filled with love and colourful designs, these cards were intended for their siblings and friends. It was a joy to see them express their feelings through art and words. They learned about the traditional items used in Raksha Bandhan rituals and enjoyed placing each item with care and attention in the puja thali.

In senior section, as part of the school’s weekly Inter-House Activity, students participated in a special Rakshabandhan celebration that beautifully blended tradition with patriotism. Our young Goenkans extended their love beyond the classroom and homes, crafting handmade Rakhis for the brave soldiers of the Indian Army – the true guardians of our nation, who often spend festive occasions far from their families and homes. These lovingly made Rakhis were then carefully packed and sent to the soldiers as a humble gesture of appreciation and warmth.

This thoughtful initiative not only brought alive the essence of Rakshabandhan but also encouraged students to recognize the sacrifices made by our armed forces.

Overall, the Raksha Bandhan celebration was a huge success. The students not only had fun but also learned    about the cultural significance of the festival. It was a day filled with joy, creativity, and the spirit of Raksha Bandhan, leaving everyone with fond memories of the celebration.
