Road Safety Session:-
Road Safety session by DCP Dr. Khyati Garg at GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow. Every year, more than 1.50 lakh people lose their lives in our country in road accidents and many more are debilitated. There is an urgent need to make our roads safer as the loss of lives and limbs cannot be accepted as the price of mobility.
This year, a month-long campaign “National Road Safety Month” is being observed from 18th January 2021 to 17th February 2021. The theme of this year is, “Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha”.
As part of various activities being held in school to create awareness among students about road safety rules and promote the concept of safety, an awareness session was conducted by Dr. Khyati Garg IPS DCP Traffic Police, Lucknow on 2 February 2021 at GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow for the students and teachers.
The workshop began with a warming up session with the students. Questions were asked from the students regarding Zebra crossing rules, road signs and use of helmets, etc. It was informed to students that Lucknow has 132 traffic signals which are managed by ITMS (Integrated Traffic Management System). Students were also told about the working of the high-resolution cameras used in traffic signals which can capture a photo of any moving vehicle and helps in tracking all the details about a vehicle.
A very important point that was stressed upon the attendees was that traffic rules apply equally to men and women without gender discrimination. Students were also given information about the various road makings and their meaning. The importance of wearing a helmet that was ISI marked and meeting all the safety norms set by the government was told to the students. Furthermore, the students were told about the difference between the learning license and permanent license and the procedure and age limit of acquiring a driving license.
An interactive session was conducted where students answered various questions about road safety rules, the meaning of various road signs, and safe driving practices. Students came to know about the three types of road signs – Mandatory, Warning, and Informative. Each has a different purpose which helps the public safe mobility on roads. Students were given gifts for answering the questions correctly.
The session ended with DCP, Traffic Police, Dr. Khayati Garg reminding the students about the tough working conditions of traffic police personals and their service for the common man, especially during COVID times. Students were also asked to give their feedback and suggestions on Twitter, Facebook, Helpline No. etc to further improve the service of traffic police. The Chairman, Mr. Sarvesh Goel applauded the efforts of traffic police in maintaining the traffic as well as their helpful attitude towards a common man.
