On July 11 2025, G D Goenka Public School, Lucknow brought the joy of experiential learning to life through a specially curated Sensorial Activity Day, organized for students from Toddler to Grade II. This enriching event focused on enhancing early childhood development by engaging all five senses—touch, sight, hearing, smell, and movement through hands-on learning experiences.
The primary objective of the day was to foster sensory awareness, fine motor development, and language acquisition while also encouraging creativity, emotional expression, and confidence among young learners. The activities were thoughtfully designed to align with the developmental needs of each age group, providing children with opportunities to explore, interact, and express themselves in an engaging environment. Toddlers participated in a rice scooping activity that helped them develop eye-hand coordination and an understanding of textures. Nursery students explored a sand tray filled with hidden shapes and objects, stimulating tactile curiosity. In Lower Kindergarten, children explored mystery boxes to identify different objects by touch, thereby building descriptive vocabulary and sensory perception. Upper Kindergarten learners experimented with primary colours inside sealed bags, observing visual changes while engaging in safe and stimulating tactile play. Grade I students took part in a blindfolded texture challenge, identifying various materials such as sponges, clothes, and bricks using only their sense of touch, thereby enhancing both sensory discrimination and verbal articulation. Meanwhile, Grade II learners used sensory story stones to spark their imagination—picking stones featuring different images or textures and crafting short stories or expressive sentences inspired by them.
Sensorial Activity Day proved to be an immensely successful and meaningful experience, reinforcing G D Goenka Public School’s commitment to holistic education. It provided students with the opportunity to connect with the world around them in a joyful, memorable, and educational way.
