Session on Tobacco Awareness Conducted at GD Goenka Public School Lucknow:
On 22nd July 2024, GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, hosted a guest lecture on Tobacco Awareness for students of classes XI and XII. The session was conducted by Dr. A.K. Singh, an ENT specialist and Assistant Professor at Autonomous State Medical College, Lakhimpur. Principal Dr. Prerna Mitra welcomed the speaker and highlighted the importance of health education.
In the session, an introduction to various forms of tobacco and the addictive nature of nicotine was made, and a discussion was held on various respiratory diseases, cardiovascular issues, and the increased risk of cancers due to tobacco use. Students were explained about the link between tobacco and cancer, with a focus on prevention and early detection.
During the session, Dr. A.K. Singh also addressed the issue that how young adults are vulnerable to tobacco addiction and the challenges of quitting. He also suggested strategies for quitting, including counseling and support groups.
The students engaged in a Q&A session at the end and received practical advice on resisting peer pressure and staying tobacco-free.
