STUDENTS PREPARE FOR EMERGENCY SITUATIONS THROUGH MOCK DRILL CONDUCTED AT GD GOENKA PUBLIC SCHOOL:
Mock drills and evacuation drills are an imperative part of the school curriculum in order to create awareness and preparedness during calamities. The students are trained to be alert, quick and responsible, follow instructions, maintain calm and avoid panic to avert stampede-like situation and casualties. Considering the safety of the students to be of prime importance, a presentation was displayed to apprise the students of GD Goenka Public School Lucknow, on how to protect themselves from natural calamities, terrorist attack and fire. As a precautionary measure and as a regular step, GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow conducted a mock drill on May 8, 2025 for its students, to safeguard the students from any such disaster like fire, earthquakes and terrorist attack in future.
The disaster can be labeled as anything unprecedented and the students in such situations were guided for proper and immediate action. The program was designed to avert any kind of stampede, fear and panic. The students evacuated the school building within in a short time span. The staff members and the NCC scout team positioned themselves at pre-decided vantage points to guide and assist the students as soon as the fire alarm went off. The students quickly moved out in proper lines, covering their nose. All students were evacuated from the school building in 7 minutes from the ringing of alarm. Students reached the safe designated areas allocated for each class in case of any emergency. The senior and junior students assembled in the pre-allocated assembly areas. Post evacuation, a head count was done by the class teachers to ensure the presence of everyone and to be assured that no one was left behind in the building. The drill focused on activation of the full response system, incorporated decision making and life safety aspects and was followed by a review session.
A prior briefing of instructions and cautionary measures to be followed by all members of the faculty in case of various emergencies and situations had taken place.
All students and faculty members were made aware about the correct way to carry themselves and assessing others to safety in specific situations which included safety from earthquakes, fires, terrorist attacks, bombing, medical aid and evacuation of self and others. Different methods were introduced to evacuate safely from the same and how to aid the injured.
Here in GD Goenka Public School, our main objective is to spread awareness, build preparedness, courage and confidence, and enhance the faculty as well as the students’ ability to take immediate action.
Chairman of GD Goenka School Lucknow Mr Sarvesh Goel and Principal Dr Prerna Mitra were also present during the drill and supervised the activity.Mr Goel said that these mock drills are part of life skills training and we at GD Goenka School ensure that the students are prepared to face all kinds of situations and challenges in life and do not panic in emergency situations, rather help others to cope up with it.
The mock drill was conducted successfully and the students got the feel and experience of managing real life emergency situations.
