Swachh Bharat Abhiyan:
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan driven by Goenkan. A team from department of Cultural Affairs, Government of India, NewDelhi initiated a ‘Clean India Awareness Drive’ at G.D. Goenka Public School, Lucknow. The awareness about Swachh Bharat was brought through a Nukkad Natak. Through their performance, the team educated the children about how the polythene poses a threat to scavengers, choke the drains and pollute the environment. The Chairman of the school, Mr. Sarversh Goel, too reiterated the need to keep the environment clean and asked the children to be alert, aware and concerned in order to make the world a better and clean place to live in.
Objectives of Swachh Bharat:
The objectives of Swachh Bharat include eliminating open defecation through the construction of household-owned and community-owned toilets and establishing an accountable mechanism of monitoring toilet use. Run by the Government of India, the mission aims to achieve an “open-defecation free” (ODF) India by 2 October 2019, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, by constructing 90 million toilets in rural India at a projected cost of Rs 1.96 lakh crore (US$30 billion). The mission will also contribute to India reaching Sustainable Development Goal 6, established by the UN in 2015.
Brand Ambassador for Swachh Bharat:
Akshay Kumar appointed brand ambassador for Swachh Bharat. Dehradun, Sept 18 Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat today announced the appointment of Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador of the Swachh Bharat Mission in the state.
Logo and Tagline:
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi felicitates winners of ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ logo & tagline contest. Anant Khasbardar of Kolhapur in Maharashtra wonthe logo design contest while Bhagyasri Sheth of Rajkot in Gujarat emerged successful in the contest for tagline for the logo.
Taking the broom to sweep the streets, cleaning up the garbage, focussing on sanitation and maintaining a hygienic environment have become a practice after thelaunch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. People have started to take part and are helping spread the message of ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness.’
