Young Parliamentarians Debate over World Affairs at GD Goenka Model United Nations 2024

 

The 8th edition of the GD Goenka Model United Nations was successfully held at GD Goenka Public School Lucknow on Friday and Saturday, October 4 and 5, 2024. This two-day event saw participation from more than 40 schools, including The Millennium School, Seth M.R. Jaipuria School, La Martiniere Boys’ & Girls’ College, Manipal Public School, branches of Delhi Public School, Mahanagar Boys and Girls School, City Montessori School and St. Francis College, etc.

 

The event opened with the lighting of the lamp by the School Chairman Mr Sarvesh Goel and Principal Dr Prerna Mitra and an energetic and captivating performance of Shiv Tandav by the school’s students set the tone for the day. GD Goenka Public School’s Chairman, Mr. Sarvesh Goel, welcomed all participating schools and educators, emphasizing the school’s commitment to nurture the innate talent and potential of the students and bring it to the forefront. He stated that Model United Nations is a vital platform for students to explore, discuss, and exchange global ideas. Around 750 students joined as representatives of various countries to discuss and find solutions to global issues.

 

The Executive Board members were honored with scarves, and the programme proceeded with video presentations for each committee. The Chief Secretary, Arya Tripathi, addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of youth in shaping the world.

 

Participating committees included UNGA, JCC, UNSC, WHO, ISPAC, QAUMI ASSEMBLY, UNHRC, CCC, IPC CARICATURE, LOK SABHA, IPC PHOTOGRAPHY, IPC JOURNALISM, UNCSW, and JPC. The participating students from each committee presented their views on assigned topics and proposed solutions.

 

The closing ceremony on October 5 saw Indian Foreign Service officer Shri Shubham Singh as the chief guest. He congratulated the winners and praised the MUN executive committee’s efforts in organizing the event at such a grand scale. He emphasized that overcoming challenges requires determination and was impressed by the innovative suggestions presented by the students.

During the ensuing prize distribution ceremony, La Martiniere Girls College was awarded as the Best School Delegation.

The school’s Principal, Dr Prerna Mitra, and the Chairman, Mr Sarvesh Goel, congratulated all participants and winners, wishing them a bright future.
