Green Grandeur & Bingo:-
Green Grandeur & Bingo held at GD Goenka School, Lucknow. We Goenkans stiffly believe and try to maintain an equilibrium between theoretical knowledge and practical learning. With this notion in mind, the ever-ebullient Goenkans exhibited their expertise through “Nukkad Natak”, crafts, poems, and models, and tried their hands on various experiments.
“Nothing ever becomes real till its experienced”
A day full of learning and experiencing it by practically doing it was evident in the Pre-Primary wing starting from Nursery to class I of GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow on 9th February 2023.
The Chairperson of G.D. Goenka Mr. Sarvesh Goel, the Principal Dr. Prerna Mitra, and the Chief Guest Shri Jaiveer Singh (Tourism & Culture Minister Govt. of Uttar Pradesh) appreciated the efforts of all the students and encouraged them to be a part of a clean and green environment.
The day turned out to be most enlivened for our toddlers as it was their initiatory step towards practical learning. The theme for them was “flora and fauna” which completely complemented them as learners and individuals blooming in a new world. The students made crafts from waste material and models of plants and animals which were displayed. The objective behind this was to connect the children with mother nature and instilling in them the quality of optimum utilization of resources. In the list moving ahead were Pre- Nursery students and the theme allotted to them was “save plants” and “save wildlife.”The rationale behind this was to inculcate a sense of awareness and love towards nature and teach the students to live in harmony with the environment. Keeping the objective in mind the students displayed planters and crafts related to animals. Models related to the artificial garden were also displayed.
The theme for Nursery students was “care for nature” and “Environment.”
The students explained parts of plants using real objects, and flashcards related to saving water and caring for animals, they even recited rhymes on saving water. The students well explained the three R’s – reuse, reduce, and recycle. Moreover, they displayed models related to global warming. They even recited rhymes with actions and plycards. The parents were asked to solve puzzles which were a brainstorming activity.
Our little masters of KG were given the theme of “Our world of surprises”. The prime motive behind this was to make the children traverse through the immense beauty of our planet Earth and impart a sense of respect and responsibility towards the same. They understood the theme well and displayed models like recycling egg trays, compost making and recycling plastic bottles. They winded up their presentation by reciting poems on “save the paper”.
The Goenka premises was turned into a place of experiments where boffins of Grade I, performed experiments highlighting the properties of air and explained each property confidently. The concept of Density was defined through the most exciting experiment density tower, colorful rain, and the effect of food color on the water. The students best utilized the opportunity endowed to them and spoke about oxidation, Iodine experiment, floating and sinking, soluble and insoluble substances, Capillary action (walking water), Composting, refraction, and many experiments using kitchen material. They tried hands-on chemical reactions like magic milk, Lemon Volcano Eruption, and the Soluble – Insoluble “Salt and peppercorn” experiment. Explanation of rainwater harvesting, water cycle, solar system, layers of the Earth, Wind vane and windmill, and Types of houses was done using models. In the end, students also performed a “Nukkad Natak” on Save Trees and Save Animals where they highlighted the importance of trees and animals and the connection and bond between the two which is extremely important for the existence of human life.
The little ones proved to the awe-struck parents that many phenomenon occurring around us which looked magical are not driven by magic, but have an underlying principle of science, to prove it is happening.
It was a learning and joyful experience for all!
