Women Empower Humanities:
G.D Goenka is hosting the Women Empower Humanities 2018 initiative- a Panthalassa and Denison University, USA collaboration. Women Empower Humanities (WEH) hopes to provide a forum for encouraging young women currently attending high school to develop an interdisciplinary outlook grounded in the humanities on issues concerning women. Each year the program invites scholars who educate the participants of the program on how gender and sex play out in history, classical studies, art, philosophy, music, language, and literature, as well as the politics and ethics of gender identity and equality in the Humanities. WEH will offer scholarships for taking the SAT, ACT, IELTS, and TOEFL to select participants of the program. We wholeheartedly support WEH 18′ and hope that you can encourage young women in your college to join the program.
Panthalassa partners with small non-profit initiatives in your community, and all over the world, to help them acquire the resources they need to be successful. The Founder and CEO of Panthalassa, Mrinalini Mitra is an alumnus of G.D Goenka-Lucknow. She is currently a sophomore at Denison University, in the USA, where she has been awarded the Founders Scholarship.
The two visiting professors for WEH 18′ are Mariana Saavedra-Espinosa and HosnaSheikholeslami. Dr. Saavedra is an Assistant Professor of Global Commerce at Denison University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN, and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Anthropology from Cornell University. HosnaSheikholeslami is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Sociology at Denison University. Dr.Sheikholeslami holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and Ph.D. in Anthropology from Yale University. The program will offer the students the opportunity to interact with these professors and learn more intimately about studying abroad. The applications are being processed on a rolling basis and the early decision deadline is Saturday, May 12th.
