G.D.Goenka Public School, Lucknow, organized its Annual Day function ‘La Jaie de Vivre: the joy of living’ on 22nd December 2017. The theme for the second day of the Annual Concert was ‘The Potter’s Wheel’ so as to appreciate the gift of life which the Lord has bestowed upon human beings.
The Chief Guest for the event was Hon’ble Shri Shrikant Sharma, Minister of Power, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The concert began with the lighting of the lamp which was followed by an address by the esteemed chairman, Mr. Sarvesh Goel, who is the guiding spirit and force of the school. In his speech, he informed the audience that GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow is among the Best CBSE Schools not only in Lucknow but also in Uttar Pradesh. He was elated at the growth of the school which is manifolds; Best School for Infrastructure, Individual Attention and Best Practices in Education Industry. He stated that certain health facilities are being introduced in the school for the better health of all.
The year 2017 was very eventful at G.D.Goenka, filled with achievements in various spheres of life. To give everyone a glimpse of the amazing year the school have had, the Principal, Ms. Raveen Pande, presented the Annual Report. The highlights were the addition of Infrastructure of the school, the achievements of our students and the Alumni. In her report, she also mentioned the dignitaries and celebrities who visited the school on various occasions. She also thanked the school staff for their incessant support.
A mesmerizing dance which was a combination of four classical dance styles from the four corners of India- kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, and Mohiniyattam was presented in full glory on the song “Swagatam Shubh Swagatam”.
The Seven Ages of Man was very beautifully staged by the students in the form of Contemporary Dance and Enactment which sent a message that human beings are born on earth and have a purpose in life. They have to perform certain roles throughout their life before finally joining the Almighty. The different ages which are infancy, a whining schoolboy, a lover in youth, a soldier, a mature wise man, an old infirm man, and a very old man were very aesthetically and beautifully presented in the form of dance drama.
A man is never satisfied and looks for something else that will bring him happiness, the children beautifully depicted the above theme in the form of Mime where Man is seeking for Love. This was followed by Kathakali which depicted frustration at being rejected by love. But The Potter always showed the brighter side of life.A Ballet performance amazingly brought forth that idea. Next was a Nukkad Natak which sent a message how Man runs after wealth, fame and career though that too does not bring him happiness.
The next event was Shiv Tandav which depicted the frustrated Man due to his inability to succeed in life. This was followed by a Masquerade Ball Dance in which man tries to hide his feelings for the world has been very unkind to him.
The audience highly appreciated and applauded the performance and theme of the concert which touched the hearts of all.
The other highlight of the event was the felicitation of the students who were great achievers in various fields. 52 students scored 90% and above (10 CGPA) in their 10th Boards. 16 students from the outgoing batch had secured 90% and above with Ariba Aleen from Humanities Stream topping the batch with 97. Aniya Pathak from Science Stream stood 2nd with 96 .6%, and Varuni Rai was 3rd with 96.2%.
A new category of awards was introduced this year to motivate the students who were able to excel in particular fields. Young Mathematician Award was bagged by Shrey Sharma. Pranjal Srivastava was recognized as a Young Scientist. Aswini was the Budding Artist and Mansi Vinay was felicitated with the Budding Entrepreneur Award. In the field of Sports, the Achievers were Divyanshu Verma, Vasvi Verma, Anoushka (Skating), Shree Avni(Karate). Diya Goel, Shobhit Tripathi, Kushal Agarwal, Nandini Goel and Ashwini Kumar bagged awards for their outstanding performance in Painting. The All Rounder award for the year went to Harshita Verma(VI B),Ishani Mishra(VII A),Hina Naela(VIII C),Gaurav Niranjan(X C),Manishika Pawia (XI B),Suramya Ahuja (XI P1),Shriyansh Krishna (XI C). Sports Person of the year award was bagged by Aman Goel, Iris Ibrahim and Asif Khan.
Arjun Bikram Singh was awarded as the Best Debater. Mann Agarwal, Shivansh Awasthi and Harshit Agarwal were awarded for their performance in Dramatics. Adnan Abbasi was the IT man. Alisha Singh was the Sportswoman. Aishwarya Sharma, Manishika Pawaiva and Akshit Chaddha were the best delegates in MUN.
The children who never missed school were Akshara Verma, Hrishab Singh, Saubhagya Gupta, Pratyush Kumar Singh and Anmol Singh.
After felicitating the great achievers the Chief Guest inspired the gathering with his inspirational speech. He praised the hard work put in by the students and the teachers. He specifically mentioned that the message put forth through the Nuukad Natak left a deep impact on all.
The song You Raise Me Up, an invocation to God was mesmerising. This was followed by the Grand Finale which was absolutely thrilling.
The audience enjoyed the beautiful depiction of “The Potter’s Wheel” by the Goenkans, whose endeavour was to depict how God, the creator, lovingly shapes and moulds our lives like a benevolent potter. Instead of spending our time running around with a materialistic aim, we should take some time out and enjoy the little joys of life.
The Mega Event came to a close with a vote of thanks given by Mr Edmund Gomes followed by the National Anthem.
