Lucknow Residency Trip offers intriguing glimpses of the city’s past during the colonial period. Originally built as the residence of the British Resident General in the 19th century, the Residency witnessed dramatic battles during the Revolt of 1857, such as the Siege of Lucknow. The walls of this fascinating historical landmark are still scarred with bullet marks and cannon shots.

The Residency still has within its walls, the graves of around 2000 British soldiers who died in the Revolt of 1857. The people of Lucknow tell intriguing stories of British who fled from their homes to seek shelter in these red buildings. Only a 1000 inhabitant survived this tough ordeal. On November 17th, the British troops led by Sir Colin Campbell defeated the Indian forces. Though they triumphed, it was the victory in the true sense.

The British Residency was the residence of the British Generals and other inhabitants. During the revolt of 1857, Lucknow was the main center of all the British operations and commands. The famous “Siege of Lucknow”, which lasted from 1 July 1857 to 17 November 1857 was held in this region. The British people left their homes in search of shelters during hard times.
