International Mother Language Day:

International Mother Language Day is celebrated on 21 February every year. Matribhasha Diwas is celebrated in our country to promote the use of mother tongue, to highlight the linguistic diversity of our country and to encourage the learning of languages other than one’s own mother tongue.
Matribhasha Diwas was celebrated in GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow with great enthusiasm, to sensitize students about the need for greater use of mother tongue and other Indian languages for the progress of the nation. A special Assembly was held in the morning in which the students presented glimpses of the folk dances of all the states – like Gidda of Punjab, Lavni of Maharashtra, Odissi of Orissa and Kathak of Uttar Pradesh. The girls were attired in the traditional dresses of the state. Bhumi of class VIII gave a talk on ‘The Importance of Mother Language’.
Various activities were conducted in the school to celebrate this day. Students of Grade III solved worksheets based on festivals and traditional dresses of different states of India. The students from Grade IV and V participated in Slogan writing activity where they showed their inventiveness. Classes VI, VII and VIII made creative pictures depicting the importance and value of Mother Tongue whereas Class IX students prepared Collage exhibiting their creativity and talent. On the charts, students drew pictures of festivals celebrated in different states of India, their food and the traditional dresses worn by people of different states.
