SPORTING ACTIVITIES HELD IN GD GOENKA PUBLIC SCHOOL TO COMMEMORATE ‘NATIONAL SPORTS DAY’:-

The National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29 August, on the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, who won gold medals in the Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932, and 1936 and scored over 400 goals in his career, from 1926 to 1948.

The Day is celebrated at GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow to spread awareness on the importance of sports and physical activities in every individual’s life. The virtual sports day helped to encourage children to remain active. This COVID 19 pandemic could not deter the zest of young Goenkans as they participated with great zeal and showed the true sportsman spirit by taking part in activities allotted to them. Students were arranged in groups and each student had to actively participate in the task assigned to them.

These events sensitized the children about sports and games which play a crucial role in the integrated development of children and help in making them responsible citizens. The students of classes Pre-Nur to XII participated in different types of Yoga Asanas, Cartwheel, Chair Hold, Squat Jump, Plank Hold, Push Up, Plate Tapping, and Aerobics with high- spiritedness and effervescence.

The sports fitness activity was also conducted for students coming to school for offline classes on 28 August 2021, separate games for boys and girls were arranged to commemorate this day. Students participated with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit in Sack Race, 50 Mt. Dash, Shuttle Run, and Hoop Race.

The school organised an overall Quiz Competition also for the students on 28 August, which helped the students stay connected to sports and keep the true spirit alive, giving rise to the aura of sportsmanship.
